About Perri

Artist's Statement

Having been an oil painter most of my life, I am now 10+ years into a sea change in my art.

I began creating 3D art - Mosaics, then Jewelry and now Kinetic Sculptures. This change has made the creative process much more exciting and enjoyable. I’m more aware of the mental and physical journey taken with each piece.

My ideas frequently come from phrases I can’t get out of my head, and often address social issues. I frequently find I’m sitting with piles of “stuff” and intuiting various uses and combinations  before actually planning the next piece. The Jewelry has provided a more linear path to creativity while still focusing on color and texture.

I strive to keep my work  multilayered. I crave a lot of visual stimulation, and so my work is often very detailed, with many different types of materials forming the whole.

My mixed media Mosaics and Sculptures are mainly figurative. I like the dichotomy of expressing voluptuous  mortal flesh with the hard permanence of materials such as glass, metal and stone.

These materials can be so staggeringly beautiful in themselves that the viewer gets caught up in their facade, forgetting the complexity of the women they describe.  And that is the point.

Perri Yellin

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Perri resettled in  northwest Albuquerque in 2010.

In between, she worked in San Francisco as a fashion consultant, then moved to New Jersey - first to Aberdeen, where she worked as a decorative painter, then to Livingston, where Perri established the Art Studio in 2003.

At the Art Studio, Perri  taught drawing, painting, and mixed media mosaics - until her move to the Land of Enchantment.

Perri's work is available through the Studio Store, through Perri's Facebook page, and (soon!) at Perri's Etsy shop.
